I got a ticket today.

A flipping speeding ticket. I was just thinking the other day how it's been YEARS since I've had one, and because I'll be turning 25 in a few months, my insurance would plummet. I guess I can kiss that hope goodbye.
The scenario: Jon and I had just left the doctors office, and we were meeting my mom and sister for lunch. I was driving in a separate car behind Jon, and decided to take what I thought would be a quicker route (so I could "beat" him to the restaurant- we're competitive like that). Well, I hit a 30mph zone, and continued to roll at 40mph. And there stood a sneaky old cop standing on the side of the road, radar gun in hand. He flagged me over. I then pulled onto a side street where there were 3 COPS lined up, waiting to give a ticket to a pretty little girl like me. He didn't even ask me why I was speeding; I could have been in labor, mind him. Nope, no mercy for the pregnant lady. He handed me that little sheet of paper, and thanked me for complying. "NO, thank YOU for ruining my day" I should have responded. Stupid cop. 40mph isn't even speeding, technically. Right? Stupid cop.

I kicked my husband out last night.

Out of bed, that is. I sent him packing to the couch with a pillow and blanket in hand, and wished him sweet dreams. I'm in my 32nd week of pregnancy, so no, I can't sleep, especially with a 200 lb. fog horn laying next to me. Sure, I could be the one to willingly get up and move to the couch, but I'm allowed a few pregnancy demands, and a nice comfy mattress to sleep on (in a quiet environment) happens to be one of them. Keeping me fed is the other. As long as those demands are met, I'm in good shape-- really!
You might be reading this and wonder why I haven't posted in some time, and I'm here to tell you the reason being is simply because I just haven't felt like it (in other words, no reason). That's the joy of writing on a personal blog, as opposed to say, writing for a column in a magazine or newspaper. I don't have to meet a deadline. Sure, I see people from time to time who read my blog and tell me it needs updating. Feel free to cut me a check and I'll be sure to keep regular entries coming your way. No, in all seriousness I'll try to post more, I'm sure it's pretty annoying to type in my blog address and see that I haven't said anything new. Sincere apologies. But, just think... In the following weeks to come, there will be lots of excitement (and more sleepless nights) in my world, and I'll be sure to tell you about it, so keep checking in.

Dear storm system who is camping out over my house,

You can move on now. We've gotten our fair share of rain in the last 36 hours, and my local meteorologist tells me that you intend to camp out a few days longer. But I am here to tell you that it's OK to leave. It's encouraged, actually. You have already caused people in my town lots of water damage, and you are causing panic in my neighborhood as our basements are about to flood from the lakes overflowing (see courtesy photos below). So, take your storm system and keep on moving on. Your prompt cooperation is appreciated.

Sincerely,

The G household.

He Loves...

Ok, Ok. I know I talk about my husband a lot. But I was inspired when I read "He Loves" from Bryn's blog to post a few things that my husband loves. Here goes!

1. Fishing. He loves to fish. Early in our relationship, he lived in a house where he could literally walk out of his back door and throw his fishing poll into the creek (same creek he lost AND found his wedding ring) and catch a 20 lb catfish. I could have walked out there naked while he was fishing, and he would never notice. Back then, I often took 2nd place in his life, next to fishing. =)

2. Talking about Fishing. If you know or have met a true fisherman, the subject is likely to come up in a conversation. He'll talk your ear off about fishing, and about the "would-have-been-state-record" catch that got away.

3. Family. And with a family as big as his, there's a lot to love.

4. Mowing/weed-eating/anything yard related. After he gets done mowing (which is often more than the yard really needs) He will ask me to come outside to the back porch and admire how perfect the lines in the grass are. He'll then usually say something like "I did a good job, huh?"
How fitting, that as I write this post I can hear him edging the yard, providing me with a perfect photo opportunity.

5. His pregnant wife.

6. Potatoes. He loves 'em, and I hate 'em. We're a perfect match because at restaurants, he gets my portion.

7. Reptiles. When we were first dating, he had 2 leopard geckos, a tokei gecko, 2 bearded dragons (which we're in the process of finding loving homes for) and an alligator. I had to (lightly) put my foot down to get rid of most of these creatures, but I know better when it comes to the alligator. We still have him, and someday when he passes on to gator heaven, he will make a great little purse for me.

Your turn! Post a few things that your significant other loves.

Sayonara, Summer!

Hit the road. Adios. Pouf! Be gone.
These days, summer months seem to go as fast as they come. It occurred to me yesterday while celebrating summer's end with a neighborhood BBQ that the situation felt all too familiar; it seemed like we had just lit the charcoal for the first time and had the inaugural neighborhood grill-out to kick off the summer. So how'd the time fly so quickly? Back when I was in school, summer break seemed more like light years, and I was itching to get back to school after 2 weeks of vacation (spent watching countless episodes of Salute your Shorts).
I gotta be honest. I still get sick of summer real fast. I'm not a summer girl, and I just don't like it. Between mother's/father's day, 3 national holidays, 2 million family birthdays (ok, maybe not 2 million, but definitely a ballpark figure here) it seems we're attending BBQ's at least once a week. Sometimes, twice in one day. That equates to A LOT of hamburgers, hot dogs, and steaks, and right about now, I'd rather chew my arm off than have another meat concoction between a bun. Summer break is also tough, as going nearly 4 months without my all time favorite show, Desperate Housewives, is detrimental to my well being.
I'm ready for a cool, crisp night and a hearty bowl of chili. I love observing the changing leaves of fall and making apple pie on Saturday afternoons. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy gathering with family and friends over good food, but summer is OVERKILL.
So good riddance, summer. See ya next year.
